Etsy fees for UK sellers, in GBP
Etsy charges UK sellers the same kinds of fees as everyone else, but the numbers are quoted in pounds and two of the rates are UK-specific. Here is the full structure, matching the fee table in our Etsy fee calculator (rates below are the calculator's UK preset — Etsy adjusts its schedule over time, so confirm against Etsy's current Fees & Payments Policy before final pricing):
| Fee | UK rate | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | £0.20 per listing | Charged when you publish or renew a listing. Listings last 4 months; each unit sold from a multi-quantity listing triggers another £0.20. |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | The item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer, plus gift wrap. This is the fee UK sellers feel most because it scales with every sale. |
| Payment processing (Etsy Payments) | 4% + £0.20 | Etsy Payments' cut for handling the card payment, on the order total. The £0.20 flat part is why very cheap items lose a disproportionate slice. |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.48% | Applies in the UK (and much of the EU, Canada and others). Charged on the order total, like the transaction fee. |
| Offsite Ads fee | 15% or 12% | Only when a buyer clicks an Etsy-placed ad and buys within 30 days. 15% under $10k in trailing-12-month sales (optional); 12% at $10k+ (mandatory). |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | Only if your listing currency differs from your payment-account currency. List and bank in GBP and this fee disappears. |
| VAT on Etsy's fees | 20% | UK sellers who are not VAT-registered pay 20% VAT on top of Etsy's own fees (listing, transaction, processing…). Adding your VAT number to Etsy removes it. |
How the fees stack on a UK sale
The fees layer on top of each other rather than replacing one another. The order of operations on a typical UK order:
- Buyer pays the order total — item price + the postage you charged + any gift wrap, all in GBP.
- Etsy deducts the 6.5% transaction fee from that total.
- Etsy deducts payment processing — 4% of the total plus the £0.20 flat amount.
- Etsy deducts the 0.48% regulatory operating fee on the order total.
- If the sale came through an Offsite Ad, the 12–15% advertising fee comes off too.
- If you are not VAT-registered, 20% VAT is added on top of Etsy's fees themselves.
- What remains is your payout — from which you still subtract your materials, your time, and the actual postage you paid the carrier.
Illustrative UK example
Illustrative rates for showing the arithmetic — not a quote of Etsy's current schedule. Use the calculator below with the UK preset for real numbers.
Say you sell a print at £25 with £3.50 postage charged to the buyer (order total £28.50):
- Transaction fee: 6.5% × £28.50 = £1.85.
- Payment processing: 4% × £28.50 + £0.20 = £1.34.
- Regulatory fee: 0.48% × £28.50 = £0.14.
- Listing fee: £0.20 (accounted per unit sold).
- Fees subtotal: ≈ £3.53 — before any Offsite Ads fee or VAT on fees.
- Your payout = £28.50 − £3.53 = £24.97, minus your materials and the actual postage you paid.
Notice the postage trap: the 6.5% and 4% are charged on the £3.50 postage the buyer paid, not just the £25 item. Price your postage accurately — undercharging it is a straight loss on top of the fees.
VAT on Etsy fees: the UK-specific extra
This is the fee UK sellers most often miss. If you are a UK seller who is not VAT-registered, Etsy adds 20% VAT on top of its own fees — the listing fee, the transaction fee, the payment processing fee, and so on. It is a tax on the fees, not on your sale price, but it still comes out of your pocket.
Two things worth knowing:
- Registering for VAT and adding your VAT number to Etsy removes it. Once Etsy has your number, the VAT-on-fees charge stops. Whether registering is right for your business is a separate question — it also means charging VAT on your sales — so this is worth discussing with an accountant, not deciding from a fee table.
- It applies to the fees, so it scales with them. On a thin-margin item where fees are already 12–15% of the order, another 20% on top of those fees is material. This is one more reason to run real numbers rather than estimating.
Royal Mail postage and the profit math
Postage is the other half of a UK seller's margin, and it interacts with Etsy's fees in a way that surprises people: Etsy charges its percentage fees on the postage the buyer pays you, but the actual cost of the parcel is yours. That creates two separate numbers to get right:
- What you charge the buyer for delivery — this goes into the order total, so the 6.5% transaction fee and 4% processing fee apply to it.
- What you actually pay the carrier (e.g. Royal Mail) — this comes out of your payout afterward, like materials.
If you charge £3.50 for delivery but the parcel costs you £4.20 to send, you lose 70p twice over: once as an unrecovered cost, and once because you paid percentage fees on the £3.50 as if it were revenue. Weigh and measure a packed parcel before you set delivery charges, and re-check whenever Royal Mail revises its prices. Offering "free" delivery does not dodge the fees either — folding postage into the item price just moves the same fee base from one line to another.
UK pricing habits that protect margin
- Price from the payout backward in GBP. Decide the profit you need per item in pounds, add materials and the real postage cost, then solve for the item price that leaves that profit after all UK fees. The calculator's reverse-pricing tool does exactly this with the UK preset selected.
- Watch the £0.20 flat fee on cheap items. On a £4 sticker, the £0.20 payment-processing flat fee alone is 5% before any percentage fee lands. Bundles and multi-packs spread it across more revenue.
- Budget £0.20 of listing fee into every unit. Multi-quantity listings renew (and recharge) per unit sold — ten mugs from one listing means ten listing fees.
- Track Offsite Ads attribution. A 12–15% fee on one order can erase a thin margin, and it appears on the order rather than in any ad dashboard. Run best-sellers through the calculator with the ad toggle on.
- Revisit pricing when Etsy changes fees. Etsy raised the regulatory fee in several European markets in mid-2026 — fee creep is silent margin erosion if your prices sit still.

Frequently asked questions
What are Etsy's fees for UK sellers in 2026?
UK sellers pay a £0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total (item + postage + gift wrap), 4% + £0.20 payment processing through Etsy Payments, a 0.48% regulatory operating fee, and 12–15% on sales attributed to Offsite Ads. Non-VAT-registered sellers also pay 20% VAT on top of Etsy's fees. Rates change over time, so confirm against Etsy's current Fees & Payments Policy.
Do I pay VAT on Etsy's fees as a UK seller?
If you are not VAT-registered, yes — Etsy adds 20% VAT on top of its own fees (listing, transaction, processing, and the rest). Adding your VAT number to your Etsy account removes the charge. Whether VAT registration is right for your shop is a decision to make with an accountant.
Is the Etsy listing fee £0.20 in the UK?
The calculator's UK preset uses £0.20 per listing, matching Etsy's $0.20 USD listing fee converted to local currency. It is charged when you publish or renew a listing, and again per unit sold from a multi-quantity listing.
Do Etsy fees apply to the postage I charge UK buyers?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 4% + £0.20 payment processing fee are calculated on the full order total, which includes whatever the buyer pays for delivery. Your actual postage cost to the carrier is separate and comes out of your payout afterward.
What is the regulatory operating fee for UK sellers?
It is 0.48% of the order total for UK sellers, charged alongside the transaction fee. Etsy applies it in the UK, much of the EU, Canada and other regions to cover local operating costs, and it raised the rate in several European markets in mid-2026.
How do I calculate my Etsy profit in GBP?
Start from the order total in pounds, subtract the listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, 4% + £0.20 processing, 0.48% regulatory fee, any Offsite Ads fee, and VAT on fees if applicable — then subtract your materials and actual postage. The Etsy fee calculator does this automatically with its UK/GBP preset and shows profit and margin per sale.
